Podcast episode #14 – Building a video production company by yourself with Saskia van Ooijen
Saskia von Ooijen came to Switerland two and a half years ago after seventeen years working in radio and television. Arriving in Basel she wondered what now?
Realizing the importance of videos in all areas of entrepreneurship Saskia began to set up her venture in video production and founded YourBestBusinessVideo.com. In fact, Saskia took it one step further when she started to offer workshops in video production with just your mobile device.
What sets Saskia apart
Saskia’s passion lies not only with the people she meets and their quests, but also with the filming and editing of the process of what her clients produce. As an experienced journalist, Saskia says it is her job to ensure a relaxed and interesting interview that helps bring out the essence of what her clients want to portray. Her main goal in the video making process is to help the client find out what their message is but also what is it that they want to hear.
Video making as a voice of the future
It is important to have good videos, as selling your product is much more effective with a short film. According to Saskia, people are 40% more likely to interact with you or your brand, if the presented material on social media is a video. Even more so, if it tells a story.
Therefore, after an initial introduction with your client, Saskia suggests using a storyboard and pictures of what you are going to film to ensure a professional outcome of the video. The editing process is one of Saskias favorite parts. It brings it all together: all the questions, what the client is selling, along with the message that the client wants to bring across.
How to start presenting yourself on social media
Basically, Saskias message is that you just need to start, make your mistakes and improve – just try. It is helpful to think about and ultimately know which social media channels you would like to use and which audience you would like to reach. However, it is through the learning process that you often find a niche. For the filming part, you can start with just your mobile phone. For the video production part, Saskia suggests professional, easy to handle software, like “iMovie” from Apple.
